Today — Getting into College: Part 3
this is really important because college is EXPENSIVE. we also don’t want to rely mostly on student loan, which can cause debt. we will look at the various types of scholarships and how to get them.
LOCAL
local scholarships are small scholarships that award from $500 or less to $2000 or more. The reason these are good is because not a lot of people apply to them and you have an increased chance of winning. Also, $500 and $2000 may not seem a lot, but if you apply to multiple every week, it will add up.

High School Guidance Counselor - guidance counselor are your best friends if you are serious about getting into college. some counselors can be useless, but most have valuable resources for you. go to your high school counselor and ask about scholarships. usually, they have a list of local scholarships that you can apply to.
Community Foundations - go on google and type a major city in your area or the city you live in (e.g. for me it is orlando or mount dora) and then “community foundations.” some cities will have a whole website full of scholarships you can apply for.
Local Businesses - check with businesses in your area, especially those with a commitment to community engagement. some businesses provide scholarships to support local students.
NATIONAL
these are the big scholarships awarding over $20,000 and even full rides. these scholarships are way harder to get into because everyone is applying to them. some examples are:

as you can see, it is difficult to win these scholarships. that is why it is important you do them early as possible and be prepared. the two youtube videos below will help you since they are scholarship winners.
here are tips for applying to scholarships (stars are what i think are most important):

begin your scholarship search early to identify opportunities and meet application deadlines.
Research Thoroughly:
explore a variety of scholarship sources. Consider niche scholarships that align with your background, interests, or career goals.
🌟 Understand Eligibility Criteria:
carefully read and understand the eligibility criteria for each scholarship. apply only to those for which you are a good fit.
Highlight Achievements:
showcase your academic achievements, extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and any unique skills or talents in your application.
🌟 Craft a Compelling Essay:
write a thoughtful and well-structured essay that effectively communicates your goals, experiences, and why you deserve the scholarship.
Emphasize Impact and Community Involvement:
highlight your positive impact on your community through volunteer work, leadership, or other activities.
Request Strong Letters of Recommendation
hopefully this helped. make sure you keep applying. i personally apply to at least 2 scholarships daily. it only takes 30 minutes out of your day to apply, and you have the chance of free money so why wouldn’t you do it. if you are applying to scholarships, follow these tips and best of luck.
