Today — Getting into College: Part 1

here, i will talk about what YOU need to do first before applying for college. this means doing your research on the colleges you want to go to, but it is simple with the tips/hacks i will show.

Step 1

work hard. do good academically. get great extracurriculars. succeed on all standardized tests. i will get in more depth on what exactly colleges look for on the next post.

Step 2

what college do you want to go to? i say create a list of 5-10 schools based on three categories: safety, match, and reach schools.

  1. SAFETY SCHOOLS- these are schools where your academic credentials are above the schools’ average admitted student profile. you are most likely to get accepted into these schools. choose 2-3

  2. MATCH SCHOOLS- your credentials are at the average. you are semi-likely to get accepted. choose 3-4

  3. REACH SCHOOLS- your credentials are below the school’s average. you are less likely to get accepted. these are your DREAM schools. choose 3

the thing that helped me the most with making my college list is CollegeVine. this tool allows you to make a list and it gives you everything you need to know about your college. it also says the chances you have of getting accepted. ALSO you can connect with the college admissions officer through CollegeVine.

below is an example of what it looks like. so one of my safety schools is NSU. CollegeVine tells me i have a 98% chance of getting in and has a connect button for NSU. CollegeVine also messages me when a college is interested in me. i am not sponsored, trust me. this is just a really good tool to have and i use it A LOT.
